"After the devasting Tsunami of 2011, my heart started to ache for Japan again. I had to go back, with the fear that Japan would be lost to the world one day, and the anticipation to re-enter the dream again." ~Wynter
Day Three - Asakusa Kannon Temple
I really wanted to visit this Temple again, and for two main reasons: 1) because it was beautiful and I didn't give it a lot of time the first time I had visited, and 2) because this was the location of the amazing Omurice I had eaten. My biggest hope was that the restaurant was still here and that I would somehow be able to stumble on to it again...
This is the rear gate. I thought I would enter through the rear to get a different perspective than the first time.
I loved seeing school kids at some of the temples and shrines we went to. Their fieldtrips are way better than ours lol. Actually, there are always a lot of local people at the temples and shrines. Especially this one. I don't know why that initially surprised me. I guess I just thought it was a touristy place, until I realized each temple and shrine is functioning....
I'd forgotten how to cleanse myself and in the process I might have contaminated this station... shuuuuuussssh.
I pulled a bad luck here. >_< Good thing I remembered to tie it up to ward the evil away!
There are a lot of 5-Step pagodas in Buddhist temples. Each level represents an element: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Sky. In the ball at the top is supposed to be a fragment of the ash of Buddha. I didn't know this last bit. I had to google. it. ^_^;;
We'll see this shoe again in Kamakura. It's Bhuddha's shoe.
For those of you who have seen the dorama "JIN", there is a main road in Edo where all the shops are. It's a much travelled road in the drama and had been in that time. In the opening credits, that market road is featured as this street in its modern state. I wonder if it really was this street. It would make sense, since at the end of this street is the temple. This street itself is within the temple grounds. On a side note, this is a great place to buy souvenirs. The costs are quite low in comparison to other locations!
Like I mentioned earlier, this time around I entered through the rear gate. This one is the main gate at the front of the temple's grounds.
Because I took more time here, I went to some of the side streets, which aren't very noticeable off the main area. There were a bunch of really cool shops, plus some game booths (archery, etc.) that were exciting!
I took this picture to show off the large tower in the back. This is the same tower that could be seen from our hotel! I took a picture of this tower from our hotel threshold. It's on the previous page. Cool, eh?
And THIS, people, is the very Omurice restaurant I went to four years ago, where I ordered the most delicious omurice I have EVAH had! When I found it again I was so excited! I'm actually shocked that my memory was strong enough to re-locate the place. Too bad it was closed, though. I'm over it now, but what a disappointment!
